Hua-Khee Chan
Design Engineer | Undercover Scientist | Aspiring Tech-Entrepreneur
ABOUT ME
I am an enthusiastic and outgoing engineer, who is passionate in solving problems that affect humanity in the area of sustainability and circular economy. I am aspired to be a successful tech-entrepreneur.
Growing up in Malaysia and undergo 10 years of academic and professional training in the United Kingdom; I am able to holistically view the world through eastern and western eyes, I feel comfortable living and working in a cross-cultural environment.
I developed a strong background in materials technology and electronic systems engineering, through my doctorate training in extreme environment electronics and my degree in Power Electronic Engineering.
I strongly believe that solving today’s problem requires harmonising different field of study, my scientific and technical background enables me to fuse multi-disciplinary knowledge to generate solutions which many people deem impossible.
Currently, I am pursuing my interest and ambition by acting as the electronics architect for Team Tao – a finalist for Shell Ocean Discovery XPrize , representing Newcastle University and partnering with industry.

Research Associate in
Extreme Environment Electronics
Education
Sept 10'- Nov 14'
PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Newcastle University, United Kingdom
Specialist in electronic devices and novel material characterisation notably on SiC and 2D materials. I highly experienced in electrical measurements such as low-frequency noise, the standard electrical parameter (IV, CV, QSCV), and Hall effect. I have designed and built industrial grade instrumentation system to conduct part of these measurements.
Sept 08'- Sept 10'
B.Eng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
First Class
Newcastle University, United Kingdom
Major in Power Electronic and Machine Design, develop a wireless power transfer system for a cardiac implant as part of mine degree dissertation. I was able to demonstrate a 1W power transfer through a 1cm air-gap. Through the experimental work, I had designed an iterative process to optimised the electromagnetic coupling enhancing the system efficiency.
